Overview of the School

HOYU GAKUIN High School is a private high school located in the Nakanobu area of Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo. The co-educational institution accommodates approximately 1,300 students across three grade levels, all studying under one roof. Conveniently situated within walking distance of both Nakanobu Station and Nishi-Oi Station, the school attracts students from a wide range of areas in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture.

Educational Philosophy

 The educational activities at HOYU GAKUIN are grounded in the philosophy of “Independence and Coexistence.”

 School History

1946

The school was founded as “NAKANOBU GAKUEN High School for Girls,” starting as an all-girls institution at the current location.

2001

Renamed to “HOYU GAKUIN High School,” the school transitioned to a co-educational system and introduced five specialized courses: “Advanced,” “General,” “Culinary Arts,” “Fine Arts,” and “Design.”

2016

The “Culinary Arts,” “Fine Arts,” and “Design” courses were discontinued, and the school was restructured as a general high school.

2018

A new school building was completed.

 Curriculum

 Hoyu Gakuin High School offers a general academic curriculum tailored to meet the diverse career aspirations of its students.
First Year
In the first year, students are placed into one of three initial courses: TG, AG, or SG. Despite the grouping, the curriculum is consistent across all courses.Students take three foundational science subjects (Physics Basics, Chemistry Basics, and Biology Basics) and two social studies subjects (Geography and History).This broad and balanced curriculum is designed to develop well-rounded intellectual and cultural competencies, ensuring students are not overly focused on any single field.


Second Year and Beyond
From the second year onward, the curriculum expands into seven specialized tracks, allowing students to choose their path based on their preferred university type and academic focus (humanities or sciences).
In Japan, university entrance exam requirements vary significantly depending on whether a student aims for a national/public university or a private university, as well as whether they pursue humanities or sciences. To align with these demands, Hoyu Gakuin offers a flexible course system that accommodates students' aspirations and abilities, supporting them in achieving their goals.

 Annual Events

 The Japanese school year begins in April and ends in March. HOYU GAKUIN organizes a variety of events throughout the year to foster academic growth, cultural appreciation, and community spirit.
